Recycled Packaging Paper Advent Countdown

Nothing is more exciting than your doTERRA box arriving at your door! Opening it up, pulling out the environmentally friendly packaging paper that supports each of your precious oils and products you have just purchased. Cracking open the seal on the cap on the new bottle of oil you have been excitedly waiting and inhaling the scent deeply…. Simply Bliss.

But what do you do with the packaging? As Christmas is coming up, I thought it would be a great time to show you a super simple advent countdown you can make from the recycled packaging paper. They are super cute, super easy and a great one for the kiddies to make! I found the original idea over at ‘Recycled Crafts’ website but loved the idea of using recycled packaging paper instead.

Don’t have essential oils of your very own, but want to get started? Look no more! Head on over to my essential oils page to get started today. Soon, you will have your own recycled paper packaging delivered to your door (with the added bonus of the greatest essential oils on the planet!). ๐Ÿ˜‚

When you get your packing out of your box, it WILL look a lot like this. All scrunched up. Time to get out the iron and get those creases out.

So! Let’s get started!

Materials:

  • Packaging Paper
  • Scissors
  • Metal Ruler
  • Rotary Cutter
  • Cutting Mat
  • Glue
  • Decorations to create reindeer features (use whatever you have, or simply draw them on)

Instructions:

Step 1:

Simply cut strips of the recycled packaging paper with the rotary cutter the width of the ruler. You need to cut enough to create 1 chain of 25 loops.Cut enough strips for the number of kids in your household. I cut a stack of 3 pages at once to make it quick and easy.

Strips all cut and ready for glueing together.

Step 2:

Glue one end of the strip, loop around and stick together to form a circle. Loop the next strip through to make a chain. Keep adding strips to create more loops until you have a total of 25 loops.

Step 3:

Once you have created your chain, it’s time to add the face. I used some sticks from the garden that looked like reindeer horns. I happened to have some googly eyes and red pompoms hanging around from a previous project so that is what I used. It would also be super cute for kids to draw their own reindeer faces on. (Tip: If you use pompoms and googly eyes, don’t throw them away after christmas. They can be peeled off easily and be used again for the next craft activity).

Glue the stick ‘horns’ to the inside top of the loop and stick the loop together. Position the eyes and the nose and stick them in a way you find cute.

And just like that, your recycled packaging paper advent countdown is done! It’s so simple, get the kids in on the action!

Attach some string looped through the head to hang it on the wall. Attaching a loop with sticky tape or glue to the back of the head is another alternative.

If you want to add something extra, you can write the numbers on the strips. Counting down 1-24 on each of the loops (making sure to start with number 1 at the end of the chain and ending in number 24 looped through Rudolph’s head).

Start on December 1st by cutting a loop off each day from your recycled packaging paper advent countdown to build the excitement of the upcoming Christmas!

I hope you kids have fun creating this one! One final tip, did you know you can turn this into a mini diffuser? Simply add a drop of essential oil to the back of the head. Over the day, it will release the scent which you will notice as you walk by. Simply reapply a drop of oil as needed!

Enjoy!

Roller Blends/Sprays

Muscle Spray – ease those aches today….

We know what it’s like. Sleep funny and wake up with stiffness. Go to the gym and be super tender… everywhere. Move house and you realised you have muscles you never knew existed. Well, here is one blend that is one of the ‘must haves’ in your oily ‘go-to’ kit. Make this muscle spray to ease those aches today.

Muscle Spray Jemma Bailey
Copaiba, Ice Blue, Lemongrass, Marjoram, Frankincense

So what’s in it?

This little blend has many oils that are amazing for so many reasons. Let’s start with…

Ice Blue:

Ice blue (or Deep Blue as it’s known in the US) is a specifically designed blend by doTERRA especially to help muscles. It consists of oils such as Wintergreen, Camphor, Peppermint, Blue Tansy, Blue Chamomile, Helichrysum & Osmanthus. This blend is an amazing blend that can be used on its own, but when you need something a little extra, adding it to this muscle blend with a few extra oils makes it much more powerful.

Copaiba:

Copaiba is this amazing oil that has so much potential. The main constituent (Beta-caryophyllene) works on the endocannabinoid system and has great benefits for those aches and pains. It also has benefits of calming the body and any heightened feelings that come up when we are feeling sore and tense. Win Win. I love that it is in this blend.

Lemongrass:

Lemongrass has the main constituents of Geranial and Neral. Amongst the many other properties of both Neral & Geranial, they both have anti-inflammatory properties which is beneficial to a blend specifically for achy muscles. Add the bonus of the lemony scent of lemongrass and this combination is a Win Win!

Marjoram:

Marjoram is an underrated oil. It not only does it help ease the effects of pain within the body, it also helps with spasms and tight muscles too. It has a calmative effect and is a great oil for sleep! But we aren’t here to talk about sleep are we! We are here to discuss using Marjoram in a muscle blend. Using in a massage blend directly to the muscles that are tight and tender is the best way to use Marjoram.

Frankincense:

Frankincense is a powerful powerful oil. Not only does it have beneficial effects in its own right, but it boosts the essential oils it is partnered with. Win Win! Frankincense is a great oil to promote feelings of relaxation and calm. It also supports immune health and the cellular function of our body. Helping our bodies to relax and ease tension when we are in pain, helps our bodies to heal.
