Recycled Packaging Paper Advent Countdown

Nothing is more exciting than your doTERRA box arriving at your door! Opening it up, pulling out the environmentally friendly packaging paper that supports each of your precious oils and products you have just purchased. Cracking open the seal on the cap on the new bottle of oil you have been excitedly waiting and inhaling the scent deeply…. Simply Bliss.

But what do you do with the packaging? As Christmas is coming up, I thought it would be a great time to show you a super simple advent countdown you can make from the recycled packaging paper. They are super cute, super easy and a great one for the kiddies to make! I found the original idea over at ‘Recycled Crafts’ website but loved the idea of using recycled packaging paper instead.

Don’t have essential oils of your very own, but want to get started? Look no more! Head on over to my essential oils page to get started today. Soon, you will have your own recycled paper packaging delivered to your door (with the added bonus of the greatest essential oils on the planet!). 😂

When you get your packing out of your box, it WILL look a lot like this. All scrunched up. Time to get out the iron and get those creases out.

So! Let’s get started!

  • Packaging Paper
  • Scissors
  • Metal Ruler
  • Rotary Cutter
  • Cutting Mat
  • Glue
  • Decorations to create reindeer features (use whatever you have, or simply draw them on)

Step 1:

Simply cut strips of the recycled packaging paper with the rotary cutter the width of the ruler. You need to cut enough to create 1 chain of 25 loops.Cut enough strips for the number of kids in your household. I cut a stack of 3 pages at once to make it quick and easy.

Strips all cut and ready for glueing together.

Step 2:

Glue one end of the strip, loop around and stick together to form a circle. Loop the next strip through to make a chain. Keep adding strips to create more loops until you have a total of 25 loops.

Step 3:

Once you have created your chain, it’s time to add the face. I used some sticks from the garden that looked like reindeer horns. I happened to have some googly eyes and red pompoms hanging around from a previous project so that is what I used. It would also be super cute for kids to draw their own reindeer faces on. (Tip: If you use pompoms and googly eyes, don’t throw them away after christmas. They can be peeled off easily and be used again for the next craft activity).

Glue the stick ‘horns’ to the inside top of the loop and stick the loop together. Position the eyes and the nose and stick them in a way you find cute.

And just like that, your recycled packaging paper advent countdown is done! It’s so simple, get the kids in on the action!

Attach some string looped through the head to hang it on the wall. Attaching a loop with sticky tape or glue to the back of the head is another alternative.

If you want to add something extra, you can write the numbers on the strips. Counting down 1-24 on each of the loops (making sure to start with number 1 at the end of the chain and ending in number 24 looped through Rudolph’s head).

Start on December 1st by cutting a loop off each day from your recycled packaging paper advent countdown to build the excitement of the upcoming Christmas!

I hope you kids have fun creating this one! One final tip, did you know you can turn this into a mini diffuser? Simply add a drop of essential oil to the back of the head. Over the day, it will release the scent which you will notice as you walk by. Simply reapply a drop of oil as needed!
